Violinist Peter Brunt repeatedly worked closely with central composer Hans Kox, specially concerning the Préludes. This makes his contribution, the last performance of a composition by Kox in this festival, even more special. Ferdinand Ries was not just Beethoven’s personal secretary, pupil and friend, he also was an excellent composer in his own right, with a large output, containing for instance 18 (!) sonatas for violin and piano. For the next Orlando Festival more chamber music by Ries will be programmed, together with music by his colleague Carl Czerny, the other famous Beethoven pupil. Inspired by his hero J.S. Bach, Max Reger wrote many solo works for violin, and also three suites for viola solo, and three for violoncello. Larissa Groeneveld already performed the third Reger Suite at Orlando, a journey to be continued!
