Seventy and still youthful

Music can ‘cheat’: Janáček was not a youngster, but seventy years old when he wrote the vibrant and sparkling work Youth. Last year the young Spanish clarinetist Lluís Casanova Martínez was still part of the master class, this year the five Orlando wind players have included him in their ranks. Schumann’s famous piano quintet is performed on a historical grand piano. Schumann’s special writing style for the combination of piano and string quartet comes into its own in this way, a straightforward ‘ear opener’ for those who have never experienced this before. The Osiris Trio includes Ketting’s trio in its repertoire, a true masterpiece, which unfortunately has rarely been performed. Tenor Axel Everaert is fluent in Russian and knows what he sings about; with Tchaikovsky this is usually rather melancholic…

My spirit, my angel, my friend (1850?)
