The Orlando Master Class had been an important element of the Orlando Festival since 1982. Countless chamber music ensembles, who nowadays perform on the international stage, have at one time or another joined the Orlando Festival.
The master class chamber music is mend for ensembles who have dedicated themselves to playing chamber music and young professional vocalists (until 35 years of age) who seek to expand their level and skills by receiving lessons from renowned international teachers and specialists.
Our master class had developed over time though and since the appointment of our new director Henk Guittart, the master class has been radically changed. In the old days two or three quartets were invited to participate in the festival and received lessons from one teacher. In 2017 we offer a place to all chamber music ensembles who in turn will receive lessons not from one but from different Orlando musicians. Of course we will pair the musicians and ensembles with care. Though if you have a preference we will take this into account. Ensembles will have to apply for a spot in our master class.
The master class is closely tied to the Orlando Competition (this year for string quartets), because all the jurors also teach during the Orlando Festival. It is a unique possibility to receive a lesson from someone who has judged your performance. In accordance a full scholarship for the master class is offered to all three finalists of the competition.
The ensembles who are invited to join our master class will also, in addition to the various classes, perform alongside the Orlando musicians on various stages. This way the ensembles also gain stage experience and get a chance to perform.
